Review: Anker iPhone Battery Case

ankerphonebatterycaseOverall, I like this unit. I’m stoked to have additional battery life on the go, as I never know when I’ll be on the verge of running out as I’m moving throughout my day.

First impressions are that it’s a well-made product. The design feels quality, but as compared with an older Mophie case I had, I will miss the more rubberized “grippy” edges as the Anker has a smooth matte plastic finish.

I also think the Mophie has a more clever design as far as switching on the unit goes. In the case of the Anker, there is a single power button, that when pressed shows you the power remaining on the LED lights, and *also* turns the battery pack on to charge your phone. You have to press and hold the button for 2 seconds or so before the unit powers off again. I think this is less awesome for me because there are times I’d like to know how the battery life is doing instead of turning on the unit… In my case, turning on the unit triggers a mileage tracker program to jump up and want to start recording things (not necessary when I’m just checking battery life).

Update (7 days later): I decided to go back to the Mophie. Like I said, I’m happy with the Anker unit overall, but I just couldn’t get myself to accept the new paradigm that every time I unplugged the unit from recharging, the battery pack was turned on and immediately began charging the phone. I prefer the shape of the Anker (as compared with the Juice Pack Plus), especially as I realized that the rubberized grip on the Mophie for iPhone 5/5s is not the same as the bumper on the Mophie for the iPhone 6/6s.
